My First Original Pattern! Kuke

How the pattern came to be:

My six year old daughter loves cucumbers and one night she dropped a slice on the floor.  I did not notice it until the next day.  When I looked down and saw the partially shriveled up cucumber slice I immediately saw a beautiful pattern.  I struggled to deconstruct the pattern until I thought to put it on top of my light box so I could be able to see through the slice (see image below).  X-raying the cucumber slice made all the difference and I developed Kuke.  Cuke is short for cucumber, but there are lots of C patterns already, so I thought it would be cute to spell it Kuke (it is also the first letter of my name - Katy's Kuke)!   Have fun!!

  1. What a great reminder this is to stay present in the little moments in our lives! When I think of all the times I missed the gift of a shriveled cucumber :)
The pattern is beautiful and I will remember you and your daughter every time I use it.

  2. Ooo this is lovely! It reminds me a bit of the spheres and templates I posted a little while ago. I'm adding this to my ever-growing "must-try" stack of print-outs.

  16. I think "Mother Nature" is the best creator of patterns. I love the organic tangles, and will always remember fondly the origins of this. Thank you so much for "capturing" this lovely tangle for us. It's beautiful, and I can't wait to try it!

  21. What a beautiful pattern. Truly, we tend to go about our lives not really seeing what's right in front of our eyes! Thank goodness for your observant eyes and creative mind, which have brought us this simply beautiful design. Thank you--AND your daughter!
